Default Oil pressure guage

I have a 2003 tahoe 5.3 and my oil pressure guage reads 80. It has never done dat it usually stays at 40 at idle and rises a bit under acceleration up to 60.I have no lights on the dash, it runs fine I check the oil dipstick all looks fine. What can it be.

Is it stuck at 80? If so, oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. They aren't expensive but I've never replaced one on an LS, just on a Jeep 4.0. That was pretty easy, but again, I have no idea how accessable it is on an LS in a truck.

Yea win i have the key in the accessory position its at 40 and when I turn it on it goes straight to 80. I dint notice any performance loss so far just concerned. I just fixed the pass. side ac, tore up the dash and now this happens.

Good luck I had to replace mine when I put in my lsxrt it is dead center behind the intake and recesed so it s hard to tighten it well but I have seen a special wrech just for the gm oil senders that probably would be sweet to have lol.

I replaced the oil pressure sending unit on my 5.3 Trailblazer. I used the special socket and a flex joint. Be prepared to climb in and lay across the fender and engine.

Getting the old one loose was the hardest part.

I highly recommend you have a box of bandaids handy.

my 2003 stepside sierra started doing this, i also noticed the oil pressue neddle goes all the way to 80 when i turn the key without starting the engine, im guessin its a sensor.
my question is can i leave it like that cause i don't really want to fix it i dont think it will hurt anything?? , i also noticed the speedometer works sometimes, and the rear view mirror features like the thermometer, compass etc sometimes stays off and comes on randomly.
truck runs fine no engine noises
