You no longer have to worry about low oil pressure....ever!

I'd put money on the stepper motor. The work truck I'm driving right now has read 0 psi for 2 years now, and my yukon has had the trans temp and voltage motors replaced because they read low, high, and erratic.

I unplugged the battery for a while to do something else and when I plugged it back up and restarted it it seems to be back to normal and been working ok since. Not sure why or for how long though.....

The stepper motor is supposed to auto-zero every time power is applied. However, when it goes bad, the needle will flick past the maximum travel mark and actually jam on the trim when it tries to snap all the way clockwise.

When my sending unit went bad the guage dropped to zero and all of the warning lights and bells went off in the truck. Made my heart skip a beat when I was a good hour away from home. Then it would move from 0-60lbs at random. Could be the stepper motor failing in that way.

My gauge is doing the same thing. It was stuck all the way high key on, key off, always.I took out the cluster and the gauge stayed at 120 or whatever. The needle felt stiff when I tried to move it. The fuel gauge and temperature gauge move like they aren't hooked to anything, and the volt meter has more resistance to movement the higher i push it. The other three meters all work. I put a 3V battery and a jumper on the oil pressure gauge's terminals and I could make the needle move either way. I don't know if actual high oil pressure started this, the gauge was showing normal at cruise, but would go up to 80+ above 3000 rpm. It did that for awhile and then got stuck all the way up.
???? thanks

Just have the whole cluster rebuilt. these things are terrible and it will all start going soon. when i first got my truck the speedo would show the correct speed at first and it would slowly bleed down to zero after 15 min of driving.

I was being lazy by asking. My oil pressure sensor is extra difficult to reach because of the aftermarket fuel rail on my TBSS intake manifold blocking access. I also have a fuel filter/distribution block that needs to be removed to get to the fuel rail. I tested the gauge this afternoon according to my service manual. I was getting voltage in the correct range, and when I had the cluster's cover off, I zeroed the needle. It went to 120 again when I turned the key on. Everything is pointing to the couple year old sensor being bad, if not the wire. I am in the process of ordering a sensor to change out since I don't want to remove the fuel rail a second time if unnecessary.

Any opinions on the AC Delco labeled sensor versus the sensor advertised as GM?

I believe they are the same as both numbers are on the box.
The 99-02 have one pin (pictured) and the 03+ have three pin connectors.
Dam things are are around $40
