Also, I think HPT may be coming out with a USB interface, though I don't know when.
Me and Onyx are running USB connections, I have never had a problem with mine. IMO you can never go wrong with a toshiba, they use high quality parts. From what I have heard Toshiba uses the same technology on the screens that sony does. this is the order in which I would get a notebook:

Toshiba
Apple G4
Sony/Dell

You cant use the apple, cause of the operating system, but that would be my number one pick.

Funny you say that, my final two choices were between a Toshiba and Sony . The Toshiba was $100 less than the Sony and was better equipped, however, the display was not as bright as the Sony(with the X-brite). I had them side by side looking from every angle and the the Sony had a distinct advantage. I actually preffered the Toshiba's feel and layout over the Sony, but the brighter screen sealed it for me.

I bought mine at Best Buy all that I recomend that if you get one always buy the three year warranty. its around 400 dollars but it is worth it. I replaced my sorry compaq with the no lemon policy. They completly gave me the entire value for it. Plus I think Best buy has good computer repair center.

2mb L2 cache, 533mhz FSB
512mb DDR2 SDRAM max 2g
100gb hard drive

I have a HP ze4560us that I bought 2 years ago from ecost.com. Cost me around $800. It was a factory refurb with a AMD 2500 processor, 512 RAM, 15" screen and a 40 gig hard drive. It also has a serial port. It only cam with a 90 day warranty. I didn't have any problems with it until recently, the power jack plug would only charge it if you held it in the right position. I took it to radio shack and they soldered a new jack in for a $100 bucks. It has been a great laptop for me. Works great for tuning
