newbie wannabe tuner questions

Default newbie wannabe tuner questions

well i am a wannabe tuner and i have been browseing the different websites lately and im just so confused about the different programs the companies offer. like for example hptuners has all the differnet vcm suites plus they have that one tuner for 50$ so basically i need to know everything i need includeing the price of a labtop to do the tuning. (i know absolutely nothing about computers)

i went to there website but. what am i supossed to buy?? the programmer looking thing or the other one? and does that come with all the software needed to tune my truck? and at 700$ is there anything out there that i s a tad bit cheaper?

that programmer looking thing hooks to your computer..you do all your tuning on your laptop and you can load your tune in to that ''programmer'' and then you can load it into your truck and datalog with that ''programmer'' and then come back to your laptop and load the log from your ''programmer'' to laptop and view the log..do some more reading

alot of of guys on here have the efi live tuning software and the programmer looking thing is the new V2 comes with the software for your laptop

o ok i see now, so if i buy that then i dont need to get a lab top i can just use my pc? and do you get like a base tune when you buy the program?

yes you can use your pc..once you buy the V2.. for every vehicle that you tune there is a $100 license.. you hook you to your truck and your down load your stock or current tune and you start from there..if you dont plan on dyno tuning it..you will need a wide band o2 sensor and you can connect that into your datalogging so you will know the A/F through out the rpms

how much do the wide bands cost? and is this carb legal?? im assuming its not. and is there anyway to save my stock tune so when i have to take it in and have it smoged i can put the stock tune back in?

an lm1 wideband is around 350-400 sometimes you can buy the v2+lm1..theres a guy on here thats sells them..yes the tune you download first is your stock tune if you dont have a handheld..if your do you need to take it back to stock then download..then once you download your stock tune save that as your stock tune and then use that tune as a base tune to start your tuning..so you have your stock tune and the tune your working on
