Default newbie tuner

So I'm new on this site, been following for a while though. I've been thinking of learning how to tune these trucks. i have a 2004 silverado ecsb 5.3. i'm gonna do a 6.0/4l80e swap next summer when i get some free time and i don't really feel like paying someone else to tune it for me when i figure i can learn how to do it myself. but the question i have is, exactly how hard is it to learn how to do a complete tune for that kinda swap? i've been looking at hptuners software, doesn't look too complicated. i figure if i get it now, and play around with it a few months, i'll be ready to do my own tune next summer. what you guys think?

We all started at some point where you are at. I think tuning software is a good tool to have. If you already have the truck, start tuning it. You will be able to see your improvements as you learn. There are a lot of people on here that are willing to help.

Make small changes until you get the hang of it. Also, learn how to utilize all the features of the scanner.

It all depends on How deep you want to get into tuning.

They both accomplish the same basic thing, the files are just laid out differently.

With EFI Live you can do your own segment swap like if you want to swap the transmission to a 4L80E.

HP Tuners requires you to use the a file with a similar OS and you have to send it to there tech support for them to merge the files. My understanding is that they usually get it back the same day or by the next business day depending on when you send it to them.

Again it's more of a preference thing then anything.
