After cleaning the MAF (didnt look dirty) and the TB (was dirty) it ran fine and did not idle rough at all. A few days later and it still does not idle rough but sometimes it does fluctuate in idle (not stable - goes from 1k down to 500 or lower and back up to 1k) . I strongly believe it is an intake gasket but do not know for sure. I had been messing with the VE , MAF , and timing with HPtuners but after it started acting up I put it back to the stock tune to eliminate the idea that I messed something up, but still is happening...

I am hoping to do a cam/head swap around xmas time and part of this will be new intake gaskets so I think I may just hold out until then to change my gaskets. I was hoping to get this resolved before doing the cam/heads so that I know it was running good before the swap(s). i didnt want to get new intake gaskets and then have to replace them in just 3 weeks - i dont think its advisable to reuse intake gaskets?

thanks

got my cam/head swap done and in the process i got new intake gaskets. this issue seems to have gone away. i could not see anything obvious on the gaskets as far as leaks go. I just cleaned the intake manifold off really well and got heavy duty felpro gaskets as a replacement. looks like its working so far...

Was the rubber flat to the plastic on the old gaskets?

If so that was your issue.

Any distortion in the gasket could cause the issue...

on the old gasket itself - i THINK so . didn't know what a new one looked like so i did not know what to compare it to. it was pretty flat if i remember correctly. new gasket was not OEM type and so it was not identical to the old one for comparison.

Did you have it tuned after the headers were put on?? That can mess with fuel trims and create odd misfires etc and set weird codes too.... Chances are gaskets were flattened or distorted though

on the stock tune it was having issues. it just started having issues one day. after head/cam swap with stock tune it did not have problems so it had to have been bad intake gaskets..
