Default Lookin' at an S10..........

In the market for an S10/ Sonoma. HP tuners lists on their site that the suite is only supported from 97 on up. After reviewing specifications and the fact that both 96 and 97's are OBDII I'd hafta think that HP tuners could/ would work on a '96. Does anyone have a 96 S10/ Sonoma, Blazer or Jimmy that they've used HP tuners on............................
Thanks

We only support 98+ s10's, pre 98 use a different(unsupported) pcm.

No idea, haven't heard of anyone trying to do so thus far so I don't know what compatiblity issues he'd face. Probably not worth the effort for the most part.

Hmm- guess that might be a possibility, the PCM swap but prolly more trouble than it's worth. The crank triggers for the spark timming differ from 96-97 to 98+ on the 2.2...................

ive heard that the 98+ 4cyls are speed density from the factory, and that there isnt a whole lot of tuning you can do to em.

THanks for that info. I dionn't even have the truck, yet so years can still vary. Outta the box '96's got the best mileage, 98+ the head is golden because of the heart shaped combustion cnamber, which I don't place alot of weight on. According to HP Tuners site, http://www.hptuners.com/products/vcmsuite_vehicles.php the 2.2 is supported back to '97 which is great so I thought if I stumbled onto a killer deal on a 96 if I could do a little tweaking. I know this will never be a powerhouse, I've already got a Sierra that does everything I need and so much more................

I had an 01 S10 2.2 Auto, with cold air, header, 2.5" exhaust, and a POS JET chip, dyno'd like 103 hp... Don't know that I'd waste time tuning one to get maybe 10%?

I wouldn't waste time trying to go abouts getting a tune for a 2.2 s-10. They get good enough gas mileage as it is.

I had a 96 ecsb s-10 with the 2.2 and was bagged. It still got 26+ mpg.

To answer your other question. It is not feasible to even do a pcm swap. One the cluster has digital odometer on the 98+ unlike a 97and under. Which is all controlled through the pcm.

I know this stinks for my first post. lol
