I have a 99 limited tahoe(police package).

I have gibson headers, volant air box, and 3 inch single exhaust. With the 3.42 gears it cruises and the speed cut off is at 115.

I am inquiring if any body messed with a tune or any other options for a little better response. It is getting just shy of 99,000 miles.

i have a blackbear tune and i like it very much its better then my superchips . i have also heard pcm4less is very good with these older 5.7 vortecs .i had my tune with little firmer shifts and no TM. 91 octane tune . 135 mph shut off

 

I'm not sure if the police package ran a different tune, but if its the same as what was in my 98, there is a lot to gain. I recently tuned a buddy's 00 denali with the 5.7 vortec and he gained even more. For whatever reason, GM has a horrible PE enable delay from the factory, it was set to 4 sec on mine and 5 on my buddies denali. Fix that, throw 3 more degrees of timing at it, disable BTM and abuse management, and cut the trans tq management by 50% and the truck will REALLY wake up. fine tune from there for better results.
If you know anybody with efilive (not sure if hp supports the 5.7 vortec), it will take him less than 20 minutes to set up the tune as mentioned above, cost you $100 unless he charges you for his time, and your truck will feel 100x better

 

The Limited was only available in 2000 with the 350 and the 120 mph speedo. The "police package" Z56 with 3.08 gears, 2wd was available for more years, but had the 130mph "Certified" speedo. The speedo can be swapped into any 1996-2000 GMT 400 styled Tahoe, truck, Burb, but a small wire must be soldered in to power the entire cluster.
