Default Input on my fueling Please

Ok I have been trying to work on my fueling a little bit, trying to get better than the 15 mpg I am getting now. Maybe it's to much to hope for but I'm trying anyway. I found some odd settings with my PE that I don't know why I did (my Enable Torque was set to 0%). Anyway I did some work on that and now my AFR seems to be running a hair lean ~14.9 most everywhere below WOT. The tune is an HPT 1 Bar SD tune with the MAF set to fail. If someone could take a look at this and give me some thoughts I would be very greatful.

First off, turn off your DFCO when you are tuning. It will throw off your VE tuning. 2nd, is there a reason that you are commanding so rich at peak torque? Slightly richer at peak torque is good but I feel you are too rich.. IMO I would also disable your short term fuel trims and tune off of AFR Error % to get your VE in line. Actually your whole PE table seems too rich to me for NA. Maybe someone that is used to tuning NA will chime in. Me personally I would set peak torque to like 12.6AFR then blend to 12.8 the rest of the way to the shift. Someone else want to chime in here??

I think 12.6 is good for torque peak.12.8 across the board is rich enough for NA also. Is there any way I can view the Hp tuner files? I only have EFI live.

Thanks for the input. That is my normal operating tune I have another one set up for making VE adjustments. I was hoping to get comments on the way it is set up now before I start messing with things. I agree with your assessment of the the PE richness I just wasn't sure so I haven't messed with it. It is leaner than the stock numbers, but I am thinking a max of 12.5 on the rich side is where I probably should go with it.

Hopefully I will get a chance to do a little work on the VE table this weekend. I guess I just wasn't sure if that is what I needed to work on at this time. Thanks again for your input.

It would be nice to be able to look at files from other programs, but I don't think it is possible at this time. Maybe someone will come up with some kind of file translator in the future. I could get screen shots of tables if there are specific one you would like to see.

Ya your PE is way too rich, but also you will find some nice gains in tweeking the VE table. Both MPG wise and responsiveness. You were speaking about fuel mileage, with my mods and the truck also is AWD with 4.10's I am getting 17-17.5mpg on the highway. Have got as high as 19.5 before, but I think that was a fluke or something. As for your 14.9 at normal cruise, I have mine cruising at 14.9 as well so I wouldnt be concerned with it. Although I am commanding it....

I wish I could pull those mpg there Pat.

gas mileage is wasted more by the fact of how much you go into PE rather than how rich PE is. Granted yours could use some leaning, but I don't feel it would effect your gas mileage so much.

Play with the enablers a little. 55kpa is stock I believe for an enabler, but raise it a tad maybe. Your RPM delay, it certianly could be raised.

Your TPS is at 85% now, that's pretty high (stock is 90% at that)...meaning you probably aren't gonna see much benefit to mpg from messing with PE settings IMO. Like 03sierraslt says, if you haven't already, clean up the ve table some.

Do you idle alot? Not red light idle, but like at the gas station and other places you don't need to idle. Shut that f-er off. You'd be blown away at how idling screws MPG.

Crap I just had a nice long responce and I lost it.

I don't let my truck idle much. My drive is about 15 miles to work mosly highway. Although there are a few hills and the traffic and a few stop lights rarely allows for a nice consistent speed drive much of the way.

I think my plan is going to be to fine tune the VE to get the 14.68 that I am commanding and then use one the EQ multiplier tables to lean things out in areas where load is less like at cruise. I will also adjust the PE a little more.

Thanks a bunch for your input guys! I hope to get this think back to the 18 mph highway range that I got when I bought it. If there are any other ideas keep on throwing them out there. This seems to be a never ending learning process and I like to get as much info and as many different opinions as I can.
