HPT tuning.. or any tuning for that matter..

Alright soo soon enough im gonna pick up HPT, and start to tune on my truck.. i just don't see paying someone to tune it.. or having the down time of a mail order...plus id like to screw with it myself...neways.... is there anyone that teachs tuning? or a good video on tuning? or is it just read stuff and trial and error?

Go to the HPT forum and start looking at tutorials. but for the most part it's all in doing the work. You have to read, read, read and as soon as you think you have it down, you read some more. Just do 1 step at a time and focus on that before you move on.
I have done my VE table and SD tune but haven't gotten as far as timing or anything. I just went with a good overall timing.

In my local Corvette club we have had several engineers who were involved with the PCM development of the various C5 and C6 engines. They all commented on how much scan logs they ran before they made changes in the development stage. I would suggest you run at least 2 scan logs before you make any changes. Use the performance PIDS and make the log scans 20 minutes each. You want to hit as many cells as possible and hopefully get 50 counts in each cell. Then make you changes according to the tutorials. Remember small incremental changes usually results in getting a good tune the first time. In a stock engine it is easier to tweak the tune than when you start modding it.
By the way, once you start tuning it you immediately start modding it. Then you add a Turbo or SC,that is when you then start loosing control, first its 5 lbs of boost then 10, etc.
