How much TM is safe to remove?
#1
So I'm about to order my tune and need to know how much TM should I ask to be romoved. I'm looking for an aggressive tune that I'm gonna feel when I hit the go pedal.
Is it safe to remove all of it, or the 80% that the tuners recommend?
Thanks ya'll!

Jbgmc, The 07's will do strange things with all TM removed. ( Hanging throttle/ Weird 1>2 shift )In abuse Tm i leave 2% and in shift Tm 50%. ( saves the tranny ) I leave eng. TM stock. If you are using HP Tuners remove the ECM, TCM and Throttle Control fuses for 30sec after any tune is installed. This will save you from loading the tune 2 or 3 times to work.

Also, by removing the fuses, will this save from having to do the crank relearn. This is a mailorder tune from a reputable sponsor, btw.

As long as you have more line pressure for the shift I would remove up to about 30-40%.
I don't think there is anything wrong with it. torque reduction makes your trans shift faster and its only active on the shift. Taking some out will give you more feel to your shift but takes away trans life.

My brother has a 04 Tahoe Z71 with ~170k miles on it. I tuned it at ~40k miles and took out 100% of the torque management and increased the line pressure and some of the shift points etc. He is actually somewhat disappointed it hasn't gone out yet so he has an excuse to put a higher stall in it. He is an extremely aggressive driver as well. I don't think a stock trans in a stock truck would have lasted through what he has put this one through. He is still driving it daily...wating.
Here's a copy of his tune. It is a stock 5.3 with a 93 octane tune, no cats and a CAI.

Jbgmc, I believe the eng. TM is used by the tranny in abuse, shift and traction control. As i said weird things happen when all TM is removed on Gen4 trucks.
Why would you have to do crank relearn? Are you changing internal parts?
