I am running a cheap ebay xentec 35w 6000k hid kit. I am having problems with my passenger low beam blowing. First it trips my relay and I have to unplug my relay to get it to work again. After this starts, it eventually blows the bulb and ballast. I took out the DRL fuses, those never are good for bulbs anyhow.
Also, my bulbs take a while to warm up to full brightness. They are not too bad during the summer, but during the winter it really sucks. It makes the high beams virtually worthless because it seems they cool down so fast. Any suggestions on these problems.
BTW, truck is an 07 new body SIERRA.

 

i strongly believe the cheap ebay brand is you problem.

 

The super cheap ballast is going to be your problem. The chinese production ballasts have incredibly poor voltage regulation and the start cycle runs for much much longer than it should.

 

is there a brand you recommend. I see where a lot of people on here like the ddm hid, but find several who dont like them.

 

I recommend HIDExtra, I've been selling their stuff for a couple of years now. I'm not a sponsor on here so I can't sell you anything myself, but I'd recommend checking out the company website at HIDExtra.com The leader in Xenon HID conversion kits. Prices are higher than DDM's but quality is also higher.

 

i have ddm's and haven't had a problem yet.

 

The bane of most ballasts is water entry and voltage transients. I wouldn't worry about sinking one of mine in an aquarium and using it for a backlight, but a DDM might not make it. Pretty much the more expensive it is, the better the circuitry and water resistance.

Granted, a DDM might live in the tank and an HIDExtra might not, but the Extra is going to have a much higher likelyhood of living.

 

im not going to argue but just because it is more expensive doesn't mean it is better. idk about that site but ddm has a lifetime warranty, and that alone was enough to convince me to go cheap.

 

Weird...I have the same exact setup on my 02 and also had one ballast take a crap, very soon after the initial install. It was under warranty and after replacing the defective one, they've been problem free since January of 2010.

FWIW, Mine have always taken 10 seconds or so before they reach full brightness and for high beams I have the 4 HI mod and just left the high beam bulbs alone.

also FWIW, my wife's Lincoln SUV has factory HID lighting and they have always (since 2003) taken 5-10 seconds to fully brighten up....that's why I was never concerned about mine. Pretty sure hers aren't a Chinese product, but you never know anymore...

well thanks for all of the tips guys, i will definitely be getting me some new hids. I recently replaced mine with silverstar ultras, but even at 4100k they just seem a lil too yellow for me. I miss my 6000k set already.
