Headers and Exhaust problem..
#1
well im quite the noob to this site, but i cant seem to find this info anywhere..
i recently installed a set of Kook LT's with the catted Y and a Corsa sport cat back exhaust system. My engine light came on ( due to the cats ) and when i took it back to my mechanic he recommended that i buy a tune (Diablo Intune) to help solve the issue. i took it to another shop, and they told me that the exhaust system was choking out due to the "Hi-Flo" cats and had recommended a tune as well
Has anyone had this issue with having a new set of Headers/exhuast combo installed?? any help is greatly appreciated.

X3 on the tune, and I wanted to add, with long tubes there is a lot of benefit to removing the cats, get those outta there. If you have emissions checks in your state just make the cats bolt in and out with a piece of tubing to replace em when they're not needed.

I don't have emissions checks up here in Canada.
I'm just confused as to why the kit would come with cats that will throw off my engine light?? The shop that installed the kit replaced my stock 02 sensor too to accommodate the new cats and the light is still going off.
And yes I'm currently waitin on a custom diablo tune.

Because most kits you buy come with cats for the guys south of the border with their EPA BS you do not have to worry about. The convertors they send with long tubes are not anywhere in the same realm as a stock cat and realistically most of the time are more for looks than actual function. The set of cats that came with the long tubes on my SRT8 Charger looked like cardboard on edge which you could look right through. That was a set of SLP's. In other words your light is on because the cats don't cause anywhere close to the reaction desired from a cat..... and the rear O2's are not seeing a large enough change in O2 content in the exhaust.... so bang, your light is on. Some guys argue that velocity is an issue, or even placement ( although like on my trucks you can't get much further back than the back of the cab where the passenger side cat is) but at the end of the day does it matter? No.
If they are like my SLP's that eventually fell apart internally and plugged my exhaust...... hollow them out or toss them altogether.
Once your Diablo tune gets emailed to you the CEL will be a thing of the past as it will be disabled. At least I think so..... Diablo dropped that ability supposedly at the handheld level but allow it with the CMR software I think.
I don't really remember on that.....

I had the rears turned off in the tune, and sense then, that was 2011,I do think it is time for a new set of front ones, they have been in there sense the truck was new, they have seen NO2 sprays, race gas,two engines and a couple different tunes, dosent hurt to just replace em after a while and the new tune I have is running a little fat too.
Pull your ECM out and have a mail order tune done or if you can get a handheld that will turn em off do that.
