sorry about all the questioning but does he come do it in person, cause i have been seeing threads about people getting groups together for a tune, or could they do single person tunes? or what other options are there?

hey welcome to the site... to help you out with numbers i had a hypertech III programmer and i ran a best of 15.1 then i changed and got a tune from blackbear and also got shorty headers and i now run a 14.79 and it was half the price to get the tune.. you can see what else is done to my truck in my sig... hope this helps

Anyone who has a custom tune will not recommend any handheld tuner, it's the nature of the beast. I understand where you are coming from, so do some research and make a decision. The same argument rages on over at the Titan forums. Headers alone should get you .3 off in the 1/4 mile, so I don't think that was a fair comparison. I went the handheld way and dropped my 1/4 mile ET from 14.953 to 14.632 just from the handheld alone and no additional mods. If you plan on adding anything more than a CAI and catback exhaust, then a custom tune is definitely needed.

had a retard a while back bring in his 05 and put a predator on it, basically for the same reason as you and lost 2 hp. but hell thats a lot of money just to raise line pressure and chirp second gear. if you just want to chirp second gear it would cheaper to buy a shift kit...

You will be WAY happier in the end with either a custom tune from one of the sponsors on here who all have a great reputation and are knowledgable or purchase efilive, hptuners, etc... and take the time to learn and do it yourself. Either way you will be much happier with the results over a handheld.

A custom tune sells itself, something "to show for it" that's in the seat behind the steering wheel, but you want little box with cord on it I guess. You just need to search the site and do some more reading. Oh and I'm not trying to be a smart ***, when people tell you to get a custom tune by way of in person or mail order vs. what you want they are first of trying to save you some money and second you will have plenty to show for it minus the little predator gadget.

Agreed. You'll notice a chirped 2nd gear with a handheld (which as stated is just an increase in line pressure). But with a mail order, custom tune, or tuning it yourself with EFI/HPT. you will notice a difference in the lines on the road going by quicker.
I like the slight chirp of 2nd gear, but in actuality it is hard on the drive train. A lot of people will make it chirp and then either drop the pressure just a bit or add a little torque management.
Either way you should get a Corevette 1-2 servo, Shift kit, and Billet 3-4 servo for your transmission.
If you want a device to show for it and you have a laptop. Just Buy EFI live or HPTuners and learn to tune yourself. I purchased EFILive from a friend and love it. If you take your time and don't overwhelm yourself it's absolutely great to have.
It goes above and beyond what you can do with a handheld.
I recommend EFI Live v2.
