Then HPT is probably doing what they do with the Dmax. I have heard they lift the chip and burn an unlocked file to it.
I can't believe the money some of these newer vehicles cost just to get into them before making any changes. Between that and the potential legal issues, it's no wonder other companies have backed off.

Part of the problem is the TCM is a write only module. Thats why you need to be connected to the internet and HPTuners servers while downloading the 2017 and newer vehicles. They add the stock transmission tables through their servers.
So lets say you dont like the way your transmission shifts and get tired of your tuner and go to another tuner, While the new tuner is downloading your computer, he will be provided a stock transmission setting for your vehicle and will have to enter all new strategies. So if you say to your new tuner, I love the tune, but want to make the 3-4 a little softer, he has to start from scratch on the transmission side.
Im not keen on that of the cost to tune the 2017 and newer vehicles, but it is what it is. It is sticker shock when I tell guys its going to cost $700-1000 to tune the newer vehicles.
I have an unlimited interface for the 1997-2015 LS series engines, and starting with the 2014 and newer LT series, HPT wants us to license each vehicle separately. They put some time and money into their R&D and just want to get it back.

yea I do I tune for a living. I had asked tuner cat a while back on it and he told me 80 but now see it’s 45. I haven’t used it as I just put a 2016 tcm in my local builds on 16 and up and use gm tds and a little trickery to make it work in 17 and up vehicles. Just like 2020 and up Bosch that hp tuners was not supporting I put 16 in those also or the hhp tcm depending on how much they want to spend on the vehicle. A lot of people have been doing early tcm in these for a while just got to know the go arounds. I started doing it in over seas 2.0t vehicles I was tuning and worked it out with a guy in Russia. No do it on all in house builds and share with the shops I tune for. It was really hard to over seas shops to send tcms off to Hptuners to unlock them so we had to come up with a way to get around it and it took a while but we did.
