Default Tuned 8 spd guys come on in!

Had an opportunity to grab my buddies 2017 6.2/ 8 spd crew that’s got a decent pre runner setup on it and jumped on it. The engine has been tuned but he wasn’t quite about the go fast life enough to send the TCM out to get unlocked. I’m seriously considering doing it. It’s on 35s but has been regeared to 4.10 and the truck has no problem spinning them through 2nd off idle.

Those of you that have tuned 8 spds, is it really worth all the hassle? It honestly doesn’t seem to bad at the moment. Let me know what y’all think

and who doesn’t like showing off their new truck?? lol

My 2016 denali with 5.3 and 8 speed is tuned by Pat g. at time of tune, I only had e85 and airbox mod with k&n drop in filter. My son says most of improvement was in trans. Have since added headers and 6.2 intake with mit tube.

I'm pretty sure you can save some money and tune the 2017 8-speed by buying a 2015-2016 T87 TCM, swapping that in place of your T87A TCM, and then tuning the T87 TCM. No need to send in your 2017 T87 TCM.

Oh really?!?!
Didn’t even know that was a possibility. I work at a Chevy dealer so getting one of those won’t be a problem at all. Just looked and only about $125 for one for a 2015.

Has anyone done this? Are there any Cons?

That DOES NOT WORK... I feel like that may have been a myth that some one said “maybe this will work” and it got ran with.

100% worth sending it in and waiting though.

I'm actually trying the TCM swap tonight. I'll let you all know if it works.

Good luck, hopefully it works for you! Didn’t work on my truck and we tried rewriting it with a tech 2 also. (Work at a dealership)

I don't see it working. The TCM operating system has to match the vehicle and the program in the the TCM needs to be a match with the computer itself. An older TCM is likely not to accept the same calibration that is required to work with a newer controller.

Nice truck OP, how do you like that 8 speed now that it's tuned?
