On my 80E , I did the TransGo kit myself , there were no washers involved , just drilling the first , second , and third shift holes larger for more kick in the shift , there is a spring that is behind a valve (located close to the front left hand side looking rear to front , held in by E clip) that ups some pressure but not a lot (4L80E slightly different than a 4L60E) . I kept stock line pressure and 0ed the shift times in 1-2 , 2-3 , and 3-4 .
If you are in SD , there is a table you need to adjust in {E0104} (P0101, 102, ad 103 to "NO") that ups the pressure when the MAF fails .

Hmm. Whats all this talk of washers all the time then?

I'm not SD. I just added a ton of tq mng to the part throttle and pulled some line pressure. I'm gonna go try her out.

The washers i guess are only in the 4l60 from what he is saying. I did the transgo in my 60 and did 2 washers, i thought it was too much. Finish line did my trans, but i believe the level i got comes with a SUPERIOR shift kit, i absolutely love it. You should run very close to stock line pressure, i don't think i added any pressure, but if it's still too hard, i would imagine there is a whole hell of alot you could do to REDUCE it, i think that would be too much pressure on something inside. I MIGHT BE WRONG THOUGH!!!!

If they drilled the holes (1-2,2-3,3-4) to large you can take the valve body spacer , where the holes are , and shot peen them slightly to reduce the size and soften shift firmness .

I can deal with the firmness for now but is it going to damage anything?

Probably not , not with the 80E , U-joints , back rest of seat , but would not do for to long .
Mine with the "firm" holes drilled felt like someone running into the rear of the truck every time it shifted , got tired of that , shot peened the holes and did "normal" hole size just right firm and fast .
With the TransGo you can do "soft" , "normal" , and "firm" just by drilling hole sizes , larger hole more firmness , when I say larger I mean just a few thousandth .

My 60 shifted way too hard, and most likely the resulted in the explosion of it. But with the 80 you would probably be fine, but i wouldn't want it too hard, if it's jerking your neck back at part throttle 35 mph or something, then i would kinda want to fix that, but personal preference. Sounds like with the 80 you can't just take a WASHER out, you would have to redrill holes, a little more time consuming, but i would do it, cause you don't want to do another tranny do you? haha.

As i recall, now i'm referring to a 4l60 which should be different in this case, you take off the pan, then you are staring straight at the valve body of the tranny, unscrew those bolts and make sure to bring it straight down and not to tip it to the side, because the plate with check ***** is directly on top of that valve body, that's the plate you need to redo the holes. So basically get instructions from a trango kit, cause it shows you what holes would have been drilled out, then just shot peen them or whatever this guy is sayin and redrill those holes to stock, or just the next size up from stock 1/1000 or something like that.
