Default E-Fan Setting?

My new tune has my e-fans set to come on at 180-185 which basically keeps them running constantly once my truck is warmed up. Even in 50 deg. weather they stay on.
I am seeing a difference on the instrument panel gauge but i am concerned with the fans constantly on will they wear out too quickly?
How much power is made by running 5-10 degrees cooler, really?

if you are going to have your fan setting that low you will need a lower thermostat, the stocker will close well before it ever gets to that temp.

I have a 160* stat and my fans are set to come on at 189 and off at 182. I'd say with a stock stat you'd want them on at 200 and off at 190, or maybe even higher, like on at 205 and off at 195.

That's what i thought. Stock temp is 195. I am running cooler though. I just have the crappy gauge on the dash but it seems to be showing a decrease in water temp.

Is water temp still controlled by thermostat? I thought the new truck water temp was regulated by PCM?

No there's still a mechanical thermostat. The gauge on the dash is very inaccurate....it is controlled by the PCM. I have done some cold-start logging with HPTuners and the temp that is showing on the gauge is nowhere close to reality. The gauge starts at 160 right....in my truck, 160 on the gauge corresponds to about 100 in HPTuners. ON a stock truck, the gauge won't move once it warms up, and the actual temp can fluctuate probably between 190 and 215 without any movement of the gauge. It's weird, I don't understand why they didn't just put H and C instead of actual numbers that aren't right.

A 160 thermostat gives you the ability to run a hair more timing advance before detonation. Or if you are already having detonation problems, the 160 might help cure that problem, or at least help with it. LS-based engines seem to make peak power around 174*, which you will be closest to that with a 160* thermo.
