Default Dynoing my truck with HPT...

I just bought the MPVI3 and one credit. I've been searching here and on YouTube. I need help figuring out how to lock the converter and hold 3rd gear on a chassis dyno.

Talk to me like I'm 5, IDGAF. lol The only tuning I ever did was years ago with the Moates software on older GM TPI stuff. I got lazy, had a good friend with a shop who did my tuning for 20+ years. He has since relocated and I need to get unlazy and figure it out for myself.

I'm planning to start small: learn how to use it to dyno, learn how to scan and data log, raise my shift points, tiny adjustments to the fueling. My current tune is really good, I just feel like data logs will help me figure out why it's so soft the first 330' of the track, and like mentioned earlier - play with shift points.

Thanks in advance. I've noticed a few really sharp individuals that post here, hoping at least one of them sees this post and can point me in the right direction.

You can do that with the tune or with the scanner.
the scanner is easier since it ignores anything in the tune.
i wouldnt use 3rd gear unless you have a good driveshaft. Use 2nd gear if its stock driveshaft.

have you messed with a dyno personally?

What kinda dyno is it?
I use a Mustang dyno with a eddy current brake and usually will do a timed pulls. 15 or 20 second pulls give you lots of data since RPMs climb slow.

What type of scanner to do that? My truck has a good, aftermarket 3.5" driveshaft. It's survived plenty of 3rd gear pulls with it in the past. Most dynos near me are a dynojet. I have limited experience with a chassis dyno.

Get a wideband on the truck before going to dyno as well.

You will need to get out and get some practice on learning the scanner if your getting HP tuners.

Open scanner and click on "Vehicle Controls & Special Functions"
Then click on transmission and poke around. You will see where to select your Gear and apply TCC.

Thank you! That is exactly what I needed. Last night i registered everything and saved my current tune. I spent a little bit of time going through the tabs and just looking. I saved a 2nd version with the shift points slightly changed. I'll try that one at the track in about 2 weeks. (Weather permitting) Hoping it picks up a little ET and MPH. The 1-2 was set to 38 MPH and 5700 RPM, the 2-3 was 80 MPH and 5700 RPM. I changed them to 40 MPH - 6000 RPM, and 83 MPH 6100 RPM respectively. I'll see if it has any impact on back to back passes.
