Default DTC P0601 for 2011 silverado

Did my due diligence here but wanted a group opinion before proceeding. My 2011 silverado 5.3 has been throwing this code last few weeks, basically driving and randomly when this trips whole truck shuts down. Wait one minute, then starts up and proceed like normal. Some people have reflashed and some got a new ECM then flashed tune back on it. Wanted opinion before buying a new ecm and flashing it on there. This is a stock truck, except I took off active fuel management.

I saw this last year sometime and I think the fix was a reflash of a new ECM

I figured so, thankfully I can do it myself and just be out the ecm. Someone would charge a lot to flash it specially a dealership.

When I write to the new ecm, do I write entire or calibration?

I usually do a full write entire . . . clone . . . whatever you want to call it.

Since you are using that terminology I'll assume you are using HP Tuners. HP Tuners will not program a new blank ECM. It takes dealer level programming equipment and a subscription to TIS to program a new one. Even if you got a used one, an 11 Silv 5.3 is going to be an E38. There 8 segment in a E38 ECM and on a write entire HP Tuners only writes segments 1-6. Segments 7 and 8 have to do the the ETC. If those two segments in the used ECM are not what your vehicle require it will not work and again only dealer level programming tools will overwrite them. I would first try setting that code to No Error Reported and see what happens. You have nothing to lose.

Yes I am using hptuners. This is good information about the ecm. I didn’t know this much depth about it. I will set that code to not error and see what I get. Last option is going to a stealership and having them do it!
