Default Does the Nelson tune lock my pcm?

I'd be very glad to ask Nelson that question but it ALWAYS takes Nelson 2 to 4 days to return calls or emails, so here I am, after 2 days of waiting for a response from him, looking for answers here.

When it took Nelson more than 4 days to contact me to sell me a tune I should have gotten the clue that if it took him that long to take my money then the after-sale service might not be real good. Now I'm just fed up with waiting 2 to 4 days every time I have a question or want to buy something from Nelson so I'm ready to buy and use an HP or EFI Live tuner.

But.... Now that I have a Nelson tune pcm in the truck can I tune it with the HP?, or is the pcm locked?

If it's locked will Nelson sell me back my pcm for the $150 core charge? I could then, as someone suggested, reprogram it using the Radix program and then tune as I want and not have to wait a week to hear from Nelson.

I have an electric fan to put in the truck. Will it work with the Nelson tune pcm I installed or do I have to wait for a stock pcm and reprogram it for the elec fan?

Your help will be appreciated. I'm frustrated. Thanks, Jim

Nelson does lock the PCM's. He says that he locks them to keep people from messing up the tune and blaming him but he will send an unlocked one if you ask.

Oh, the E fans will work with the wiring harness available from Nelson but it takes a retune, Nelson can do that or you can with an unlocked Nelson PCM and EFILive or HPT. Hope this helps relieve some frustration

You can still data log with a locked PCM. If you send him the logging file he'll re-tune per the results.

that kinda depends on when you got your pcm. i believe it's only recently that he began doing it. something tells me it was from someone going back over his work and posting what they'd found...

many tuners do this, the only way i've found around a locked pcm is using tunercat. i haven't ran into one yet that tunercat can't get through. today in fact i worked on a truck that had no vin# in the program (long story) and due to this hptuners wouldn't allow me to work with it. i then hooked up my tunercat cable and went to work. put the vin back in and next time i will be able to tune it again with hpt.

That would be assuming he could be reached and would answer your call/email. Sent emails Wed & Thurs. No answer yet. Four days & counting.

( all 4 of the emails) and he has been REALLY patient. cause i am dumb as fu^&. but really, lots of people work with him, and it is a business. givem a break, he WILL answer them.

I have to admit to being impatient and to letting my assholiness show. I apologize to Allen as he has been very patient with me. I'm sorry I was so self centered. Jim

in the last year allen does go ahead and turn on the e fans on the tunes that he sends out. awhile back hardly no one ran e fans and he was sending out tunes then all of a sudden everybody wanted to run e fans and he had to retune everyone of em just for the fans so since then he turns them on as they go out the door....

If you get a tune from Nelson, and it remains unlocked, you will be charged full price for him to retune the PCM again.
the tuning for life has been tossed aside for this application, and leaves some of us out in the dark..
IMO if it wasnt for the long delays in getting responses, "some" people might have left things alone, but when it is your only mode of transportation to and from work, you cant sit there, and wait for an email to show up 4-6 days later..
