I am wondering if a 6.2 with 8spd off a '14 or a '15 would be a drop in to my '14 truck. Or just the engine only with my 6 spd? What would be needed? Just kicking around possible options for upgrades.

 

From what I am hearing you are better off to stick with the 6spd. Just toss the 6.2 in front of it. The 8spd I drove didn't impress me, it made the 6.2 feel slow.

 

Yeah I'm hearing that a lot Pat that they drive poorly. I am wondering though if the 8 spd is basically the same trans as the Vette has with a crappy tune? Hopefully a tune will be available soon. Looks good on paper at least. Would it just be an engine swap or need a computer swap along with other things?

 

6 speeds best bet. give 8 speed time and HP will catch up just takes a little time cause it just hit market. Only reason to have 8 speed is novelty as far as performance once damm thing is tunable you'll have to stretch gear shifts out so far to not lug damm engine all the time you'll pretty much have 4 over drives. It'll make top end runs to the moon nice cause theres alway's another gear to grab once you start tachin out.

I am not sure, I am curious as well. For the engine alone I believe it's a direct swap. I wonder what makes the 8spd so doggy? I haven't done any research on them but did test drive a 15' Yukon Denali when we were looking for vehicles for my wife. It ran good but didn't feel anything like I expected. Now I know it's apples to oranges but the 6.2 in the Yukon felt similar to the 5.3 in my CC

 

Well they chose it for the ZO6 so the design and ratios if they are similar have to be better. Its stronger as well. Modeling the 2 on a drag racing program it is 2-3tenths quicker because of the the closer ratios and staying in the meat of the power band. That's a program though... Guess its probably not the best idea to do the trans before they can tune it.

 

They are doggy because the poor SOB is in 6th gear and converter fully locked at 45 mph. Same gripe with stock 6 speeds and tune. Once they are tunable you can stretch em way out to make it drive like it should. Flat too damm many gears for a 0-80 mph dd.
Only reason they use them is emissions/ gas mileage/ and meet ever increasing CAFE. Once the above are met then they worry about performance. For the most part in stock form we get to have our cake and eat it now day's. In another year or so HP will let us in deep enough im sure to tune them to meet the expectations of us gear heads. Unfortunately we are a very small part of the automakers audience to cater to. The masses for the most part are sheeple and drive them in as delivered form and don't touch them.

 

No idea why the public isn't more interested in a hot street truck. Ford discontinued the Tremor because of low sales. It was ecoboost with 4.10's in a reg cab 2 or 4wd and they couldn't sell enough to keep it on the market. I guess that's why GM doesn't do something. Guess we are a niche market...sucks!
