Default Controlling a 4L80E with an E38 pcm/tcm???

Is it possible to control a 4L80E with the E38 pcm/tcm? This had a 4L60E originally, but I want to run a 4L80E. I am aware that the 6L80/90E has the TCM in the transmission, while the 60E has the TCM mounted to the PCM. Has anyone done this swap. All accurate info would be appreciated. And that was not a smart comment, I just do not want to take any chances experimenting. Thanks is advance!!!

Yes. The T42 that was paired with my E38 to control the stock 4l60e works to control my 4l80e. There is a thread on ls1 truck that explains it. I flashed the TCM file from an express van that uses a T42 with a 4l80e stock into my TCM.

To throw out another option, you can purchase a Frost adapter harness and it is plug and play, all that you would need to do is program a couple error codes out using EFI live.

My experience with Frost's harness:

Very interesting, thanks for the read. I don't really understand all that jargon, but I'll definitely show it to the guy trying to help me out with some issues on mine. He has HPT which doesn't have the ability to disable some TCM trouble codes. Mine is running hot (so I think, trans shop said it's fine), and the converter will not lock. He knows someone not too far away with EFI live as well so we can pick through that.

you can control the t42 with an e38. An easy way to do it is to swap a tcm from an express van that has a 4l80, or flash your OS with the OS of an e38 express van. As long as the harness is right, then that is it. you are ready to tune.
