Default Clearing Codes

So yes, I did search and could not find a thread that said how to clear codes WITHOUT a scanner.

So, I got the p0442 code. Going to buy a new cap tomorrow but, would like to clear the dang check engine light before hand to see if that solves my problem. Asked the guy at autozone to clear it for me and he cried a little and said "we're not suppose to"... So...

Without a scanner, is there another way to clear codes off the cluster?

Thanks!

Thanks! Yes, posted in the wrong forum... Sorry, wasn't paying attention.

I unhooked it for about 2 mins, but it did not go away. Do I need to unhook the positive AND negative?

Thanks again and mods, please feel to move.

Disconnecting the battery will not erase the DTC's. The only way is to use a scanner of some type.

No... It will clear the DTC's as long as you leave the battery unhooked for long enough. I'd do it for 30min or so and it should reset it, and you only need to undo the positive cable.

Thanks for moving.

Ok. Going to unhook it tonight and hook it back up in the morning.

Still got my code reader on order. Thought I would splurge and get a good one with live data, emission system readiness test, views and records PMC data streams, several different connections for several different vehicle models, etc...

You don't have to leave it unhooked all night. If you wanna go unhook it now and reconnect it in about 30 min it should be fine.

Also, what code scanner did you purchase? The INNOVA 3130 is pretty cheap on Amazon, and it's pretty awesome.
