Default Can a Vortec 350 L31...?

Hello everyone,

If tuned properly can the L31 Vortec 350 fuel injection opperate without a crank position sensor & reluctor wheel behind the timing cover?

Essentially running the fuel injection off of the distributor trigger/cam position like the L98 TPI or aftermarket fuel injection set ups.

The computer is LS based running a 2002 G-Van 5.7L tune, I have HPTuners.

Can the comp tune even be written to delete crank position sensor?!

I know the LT1 guys are removing/deleting the CKP to run double rollers. I'm just not sure if the L31 uses the CKP only for missfire detection or to time injectors.

Thanks guys
Cheers ~Mykk

No. The PCM needs the CKP sensor data to fire the ignition.

I can confirm that. When I had a crankshaft break between the timing gear and the balancer the reluctor got crooked and took out the CKP sensor. The engine would not run without it - everything else was fine.
