Default can EGR be used with the 2002 operating system

First of all I searched and all I came up with was people wanting to remove it. My 99 had it originally and I've had it turned off for several months now but after tweaking the spark to where it seems to be just about perfect at highway speeds I still can't seem to get any mileage out of it. I mean I am averaging 15 mpg going back and forth to work (24 miles and coming to a stop 3 times in route) running on 8 ply 33s and 3.73 gears so I can't complain too much but I think it could get into the 16-17 range. I've looked it over and it seems everything is there for EGR to be functional programming wise but all the tables are zero'd out and the EGR is currently is set as "disabled". I was just going to copy from my stock 99 tune but the spark table is drastically different. I don't recall any 2002 truck ever having EGR so where would I look to get the correct tables? G vans were always a few years behind, I wonder if they still had EGR in 2002? I'm not certain enabling the EGR system would up the mileage but I would like to try it for a few tanks and see.

I downloaded a stock tune for an '02 Silverado from HP Tuners repository, and everything is there for EGR.

I got mine from Holden Crazy and all the tables are there but they are blank.

Nevermind I found a 2001 5.3 file on Holden Crazy. Apparently they have the exact same tables only the 01 had values in them where as the 02's were blank. Copy and pasted and turn the DTCs enablers back on and it seems to be working just fine. It can add as much as 9 degrees in the 1800-2000 rpm range where I am at on the highway. Pretty substantial if you ask me.

I've been thinking about trying to rig up a way to re-install my EGR. It was in the way of my blower. I'll be interested in your results.

I'm interested to. I know with a little peanut camshaft EGR is actually a good thing. I've got consistent data in my 14.5-15.5 mpg I'm currently getting. If I gain anything it will be pretty obvious.

Having the EGR functioning will help lower cylinder temps, which, as you know, can allow you to run some more timing which can be helpful for both power and economy, while cruising in this case. At WOT EGR function ceases if I'm not mistaken...

That is correct. Its too early to say just yet based on mileage figures but it does feel much better. Running 70 mph its barely even cracking the throttle open. It sounds better, feels better, and runs better. We'll see what happens with the mileage now.

I predict that your mileage will increase by .375 mpg.
