Default Buddy with HP Tuner program help?

I have a buddy who has that HPtuners system. He said it can tune my truck but he dosn't know how to use it enough for me to let him "play" on my truck. How can I benefit from this software without screwing something up? Can I order like parameters from a tuning co. cheaper if i just plug it into his system? Or do i just need to pay NelsonTune like $450!

Why would he have it if he doesn't know how to use it? Everyone using it starts with the basics and slowly makes changes as they learn how to use it. HPTuners has their own forum in which you can ask questions, not to mention using forums such as this one.

You can go to the HPtuners bin repository and look to see if someone has uploaded a tweaked tune that matches your truck...download and flash. If you don't like it you can always reload the stock tune. Later

Dave

PS save your $450 even if you have to wait for him to learn HP

Because you don't know how to use something the day you buy it. He has to learn and i don't want him learning and adjusting my fuel/rev limit and stuff with him not knowing what he is doing. Would you let someone work on your truck who has the tools but isnt sure as to what they are doing?

I would think that he bought it to work on something. Track how he is progressing on whatever he is working on, and let him make changes after he experiments with his or someone else's truck. There are a lot of changes that can be made that would not kill your truck. Of course this is coming from someone who temporarily wiped out a buddy's PCM when his USB to serial converter took a dump while trying to tune his truck this weekend. Luckily we got our hands on a laptop with a serial interface and all was well.
