bought HPT pro now what?

Yep start with the basic how to's on HPT forum. Also it is very helpful if you read the help files in the actual software. It gives a bit of detail about every table in the tune.

got to play with the HPT today. feeling a bit overwhelmed. going to sit in the truck tomorrow and read the basics on tuning from HPT website

Haha welcome to the club. Like I have stated start with the scanner. Find out exactly how every sensor interacts with the readings. Then figure out the importance of histograms. Histograms are everything to tuning. You can't touch the spark tables, VE, or many others without histograms. Unless you just want to run into major issues. The info you get from the readings and sensors is what you will use to determine 90% of the changes you will make in the editor. That is what I was told when i first got my cable and had I listened it would have made things so much easier. I tried to learn the editor first. What a terrible mistake. You can only make small changes without first understanding the scanner.
