best gas mileage tune
#1
I'm looking to give my truck a tune. For a while I'm not going to have anything more than an exhaust/intake mod, so i wont be needing to tune anything too crazy. My goals are to increase gas mileage as much as possible, as well as firm up shifts and other minor changes like speed limiter, but of course i want to minimize my cost (every $50 counts). My question is what should i look into. money is a factor so right now im looking at doing a mail in pcm swap with Jesse at Wait 4 me tuning. i heard this only costs $80 or so.
Also, if cost per mile is my biggest concern, should i do an 87 octane tune (they claim 1-2 mpg increase) or a 93+ octane tune (they claim 2-4 mpg increase)...doing some rough calculating, if i were to get 1 mpg inc from the 87 octane, but 4mpg inc from the 93, i would be better with the 93...so what have people experienced with their different tunes for different octanes?
thanks

Not sure but I think the W4Me tune is a little bit more $. Your logic works for me, a 93 tune should result in better efficiency and offset the .20 difference.
Most of us are concerned with performance and economy takes a second but even with my setup I can get an easy 18+ on the hiway if I do my part. I average 13+ in town.

hopefully this is not against any rules of the board but i got this in an email when i asked a question about his work:
Replacement PCMS are for GM V8 vehicles are $158.10 shipped
Jesse is 10-14 days behind in sending out tuned cores
You can keep your stock PCM and our PCM for the $150.00
To program your PCM is $75.00 + $8.10 for return shipping = $83.10
We return ship within 48 hours of receiving your computer.
Free updates for the life that you own the vehicle, just send $8.10 for return shipping.
so it sounds like i can get my pcm tuned for life for $80 (plus shipping for updates) or for $150 i get an extra already tuned pcm.
anyway to beat this deal? im sure theres better tuning out there (ive heard great things about nelson or even just getting software myself) but im not looking to add any major power nor am i looking for anything too crazy...just good gas mileage with whatever other benefits that tag along.
and still...cost per mile...87 tune or 93??? (could always try em both for the price of shipping i suppose)

if you can find some one to do one in your area..a speed density tune would do you in really good..instead of having your a/f at 14.7 which is what every car is set to..with a speed density tune you set it to 15.5 which is where you would get your maximum efficiency

get a lc1 wide band for each side.each has a norrow band simulated output that can be adjusted to fool the pcm. I have that set up and under light load conditions my afr meter indicates around 15.8-16.5
this is before going into PE mode which I have set at 12.8-13.0
