Another T/M Question
#1
Everyone says you can remove all of the T/M if you are not towing anything. Well, what is considered "towing"? I do pull 2 jet ski's around, would that be considered towing?
And one other thing, what are these programs you can buy and install on a laptop and tune your vehicle yourself? do these work with stock vehicle pcm's? and if so, where can i get one and how much are they? if anyone knows? Thanks

Tunercat OBD2 is $379 and comes complete with 2 cables, the software and a signal converter. It sure does work.
Here is a list of the vehicles Tunercat supposrts(OBD2)
The following definition files are now available:
OBD2_07 1996 - 1997 Vortec Trucks (4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L)
OBD2_06 1998 - 2000 Vortec Trucks (4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L)
OBD2_02 1999 - 2000 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_03 2001 - 2002 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_04 2003 - 2005 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_08 1996 - 1997 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette/Impala LT1
OBD2_09 1997 - 1998 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_01 1999 - 2001 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_05 2002 - 2003 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_10 2004 Corvette
OBD2_12 2004 GTO
OBD2_13 2004 - 2005 Cadillac CTS-V
OBD2_14 2006 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
The if you have a 2004 truck, you would need to get definition file OBD2_04 2003 - 2005 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L).
You can tune as many 03-05 GM trucks you can get your hands on, and you dont hav eto pay any extra.
Lets say next year you buy a 2006 truck, wel then you phone up John at TUnercat, pay your $79US and then you will recieve OBD2_14 2006 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) in the mail. Load this new file into your Tunercat an bingo, you can tune any 2006 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 truck.
There are hundreds and hundreds of tables you can adjust.
Tuercat OBD@ has been out for 14 months now. Right now it is a flasjing and tuning product. A company called Monodax is creating a product called mXScan which is due out shortly. It works with teh Tunercat software and provides a full logging and scanning function with Wideband O2 sensor support.
I like Tunercat. The main reason I got Tunercat was so I could change the Injector Flow Rating inthe PCM fr my 28 lb/hr injectors(stock is 19 lb/hr) for use with my Marine intake manifold.
It can do anything any handheld can, plus a whole lot more.
I like the price and the fact that you dont have to pay $100 or more to tune EACH extra vehicle.
peace
