Default alternator 105 to a 130?

I have a 2001 GMC sierra that has a 105 amp delphi alternator. #'s are: 10480388H ..105A....
I want to have a few more amps so my stereo won't pull it down, lights, aftermarket NAV, etc. But I know the bolt pattern is the same on the 130 145 and a 200 amp. But was told that the alternator has to match the computer. That if your truck comes with a 105 then that's what your computer recognises and that a 130 etc will not work. That it is not the good Ol days of putting any alternator on a vehicle like you used to. So I'm at a cross roads what to buy.so basically I was told I was a share tree parts changer that doesn't know what day it is. That may be true but I still think I can put a 130 on it with no trouble as long as it bolts up and the same series. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance.

It is a AD style alternator. Thought I can replace it with another AD style. Instead of a 105 go to a 130 or up. They are compatible with the 4.8L. And some later model 5.3L. But compatibility chart for my year model said it is not compatible. So all I figure is it is some computer deal. HELP!!??

Obs is 88-98 body gm truck. And as far as I know, installing a 130 amp alternators should be no problem, I'll do that myself whenever I get around to installing my efans...

And the big 3 is a wiring upgrade to larger diameter wires for less resistance

yes it will work just fine. jsut make sure you get the same year.. the problem is that they went from a 4 wire to a 2 wire. then you need a 1" longer belt.

Whoever told you that the alternator communicates with the computer on an amp specific basis should not be trusted for any sort of mechanical advice LOL.

As long as you wind up with the proper number of pins in the connector, you're good.

thanks. So your advice would be when getting a larger alt, to upgrade the harness as well. larger wires etc. so I wont burn the dam harness up. Well I cant say I havent burnt one up before. But I think that it would be a good idea but wouldnt think that the 4.8L truck that the 130 comes in would have the same harness as the other trucks. anyway...I dont know. Im just going to buy the dam thing and put it in.

Thats what I was thinking. But I didnt say anything back to the guy. I went strait on here because he had me second guessing myself and I know there are so many guys on here that have built trucks and had problems and fix's, etc., that I could get some real advice. Its never failed me yet on here. Seriously.
Anyway I seen to were the 2005 and up have a 2 prong pin. The old hoopty's like mine have the 4 prong.
Guys...all of ya...thanks for the help.

The alternator just needs to have the right connector...the older ones are 1 or 2 wire, and the new ones are 3 or 4.

The big 3 is just upgrading some wiring...

-battery + to alternator
-battery - to frame
-body to frame
and I would add another one, engine to frame/battery
