99 pcm vs 02 pcm?
#1
I've been told the 02 pcm is better in a 99 model because of the memory and faster flashing for tuning. Also, the 02 5.3 has a higher HP rating then the 99 stock 5.3. Is this in anyway true? I'm looking to s/c my truck and will be tuning it.
Thanks

The injectors are different between the 99's and 2000, 2000 and up have bigger injectors.
My thoughts are if you like your trans the way it is then you can make a 99 pcm work just fine.
If you have trans problems or want more adjustability the 2001 and 2002 PCM has the "general pressures" that may help out...
Other than the stupid dual v.e tables of the older (99-2000) thats about it...
Here is a good link for you to read....

Try this thread.
There are several guys re-pinning the 96-99 L31 to a 12200411 PCM and using the cal file from 2001-2002 Express van. They seem happier after the update.
I'm changing over a Ramjet 350 to OBDII and using the 0411 PCM in a 41 Chevy pickup.

There's also other things that make the 2002 pcms better. The 99's have "extra" VE tables and the 01-02 pcms "simplify" everything. My idle issues were much less of a problem after I switched to a 2002 pcm.

Here's the differences I noticed:
99 OS there is a "backup VE table"
Charge Temp. Filter
All the DFCO stuff
Piston protection mode timing
Fewer Idle tables to work with
Other stuff as well, but the biggest issue was that "Backup VE table"
Sorry, my mistake, there weren't any spark table changes.

Col, thanks. Guess it's not really an issue, as my truck is a 2001. I can't wait to dive in with the tunning. The truck got some of it's sould back with the new aprk plugs. But I'm also running tires that are too big, so..............
