I get that you are saying that if I get all the power and grounds right and I use the factory harness as much as possible I could get it to run. How about getting the 4l60e trans to shift ? doesn "t the pcm read wheel speed for that? I fould a CHEAP 5.3 and I have 4l60e trans laying around...

The harness is super easy if you know anything about wiring. I converted my own stock 5.3 truck harness and put in in my 86 c10. Go to the link that mcfarlnd posted its very good info and has everything that you need. I used my stock 5.3 truck fusebox and all but plan to build my own that is much smaller soon so it will look better. It is as easy as nonnieselman said about all pink to fused ignition, all orange to 12+, and all black to ground. That is all you need to run but the time consuming part is removing all of the loom and tape and removing all the wiring to the thinks that you will not be using then zipping and looming it all back up correctly. So yeah don't let the wiring scare you away. I will say though that after you figure all of your cost (engine, trans, mounts, hoses and lines, fuel system, cables, and so on and so on) you will need to triple it. I have done several swaps and they always come out at 3x the cost that i figure down on paper lol. You will always run into problems and lit bits and pieces really add up. I have a friend who is actually doing this same swap right now into a hard body but he is going with a 4.8 engine.

Your gonna use the truck harness, so the 20pin connector for the transmission and a 2 pin connector for the VSS is in the harness that runs down to the oxygen sensors.
Like i said, if you need some help just hollar at me.

Theres a way you can use the factory truck fuse block. But i never could get it to work from the info i found off the net and it was too big and alot of wasted space.

Just got thru puttin a 408 in my buddys 1980 chevy 4x4 with a F-Body harness. It was alot simplier. Once we get it fired up and running im gonna pull the harness out and tidy it up.
