Default 4L80E in a 2008 GMC sierra

I fried my 4L60E. Have a 4L80E coming. I understand that my truck has a separate TCM that controls the transmission. Support at HP tuners informs me that I need to have the TCM flashed with the Tech2. My question is that what exactly do they need to do? I went to the local dealership and they said that I was speaking chinese. If possible could someone explain the process of flashing the TCM with the tech2. Is this the only way to calibrate/run the 4L80E in my truck? What other information/steps do I need to do? I have read tons of posts on older style PCM/TCM calibrations, just not really and tech articles out there for the newer trucks.

VCM OS ID: 12617631
TCM OS ID: 24239927

Any help would be appreciated....

Thanks!

Wondering if would be better to get a 08 4L80E TCM?

Best bet is to bring it to a shop that has a tech 2. The dealership doesn't want to have to do anything extra.

You can't program a tcm with a tech2 by itself. You can run the 4L80 on the 4L60 program and your OE TCM from reading I've done here.

Use the search feature and do 4L80 relay mod and you will find some information on it. You have to move a few wires around but it's doable.

Actually you can program the ECU and TCM to run a 4L80E and Change the Vin to match. But not with a tech 2. You need aftermarket tuning software like EFI Live.

The Tech 2 and GM MDI will only program the correct calibrations according to the vehicles vin number. GM does not want there tech's messing with calibrations for liability reasons.

But you must also fix the wiring accordingly for the swap.

A tuner should be able to get you set up on the software side of things. We have a few sponsors that should be able to help you out.
