Hey everyone, I've got an '09 GMC Sierra Gen IV 5.3L with an E38 pcm, I've recently switched over to the HPTuners Speed Density patch and failed the MAF. It's still plugged in for Baro & IAT but at first fire up long term fuel trims added +18 to +20 of fuel. It also idled smoother then it ever has. I understand my tuning will now be in the Virtual Volumetric Efficiency table.

I'm looking for any "How-To" threads, forums, what in the VCM scanner histograms I'm looking to log in the name of tuning the Virtual VE. Tuning stuff specific for this controller.

I'm not new to tuning, but am new to tuning this platform for Speed Density. I've also got a BMW V8 running with an aftermarket standalone in Speed Density and am quite happy with it. Thanks for the help -Mykk

 

Was it the 2 bar speed density OS upgrade?

The VCM scanner section on the forum has several write ups for tuning. It's one of the sticky threads.

madmann, thank you for that link. It's detailed enough to get me going and appears to have all the same tables as my application.

In that tutorial it references another program for the Virtual VE, I'm assuming HPTuners added it to the VCM editor at a later date.

I see how and where I'll be LTFT and STFT histogram multiply by % to the VVE.

I'm tempted to weld in an O2 bung for a wideband now like I have in my BMW (and other projects)

Amazing how much smoother the truck runs in Speed Density, at idle I can't even tell it's running.

 

The VVE editor has been around for like 2 years with HP Tuners, before that is was the Blue Cat Editor which was a separate program.

If you went to a 2 bar upgraded OS it removes the VVE editor and replaces it with new normal VE tables. The axis are different so it does require use of an excel program to copy the data back into the new tables.

 

I'm N/A 1bar, and did the only Speed Density Patch I knew of. I don't need a 2bar+ OS for this vehicle...yet.

 

Doesn't look like you had the option anyway. The 2 BAR OS upgrade would be on the far left if available, then the VATS and other tabs next to in the middle. Some of the OS's without the upgrade get that air mode patch instead.

How do I get VCM Scanner to read the correct axis for the ignition timing hystogram? I've added Dynamic Airflow to the channels list and changed the Ign timing Hystogram to read Dynamic Airflow g/s but the values don't translate to the the correct axis values used in VCM Editor for Spark Airmass (g)

At idle Dymanic Airflow measures 4.2g of airflow, Spark Airmass (g) axis values are between .08 to 1.36 in Editor.

 

Log cylinder airmass and it should be what you need.
