Default 03 Chevy 1500 engine swap, 5.3 to 6.2, start issues

Was helping a buddy swap his 5.3 to a 6.2 today

Got everything hooked up and tried to start it, we had fuel but no spark. We rechecked everything as far as the harness but found nothing that would prevent it from firing.

Any ideas on what we need to check?

The truck harness was used along with the PCM I believe,

Thanks for any ideas

Neal

Which computer are you using? The 5.3 or 6.2?

Did you swap reluctor rings or are you using a converter box?

The GEN 4 6.2 reluctor wheel is a 58x, it's for sure not a 24x.

I feel this is the major problem.

PCM vin needs to match the trucks vin.

6.2 is going to be a 58X unless someone was inside of it.

The PCM matches the truck as it was the original PCM for the 5.3

The word my buddy got was that the 6.2 came in both versions a 58X and a 24X reluctor

He said he checked it and it is a 24X reluctor,

I was not there at the time he checked it nor do I know much about these motors,

I'll talk to him about how he verified the reluctor wheel,

FFDP, did the 6.2 ever come with the 24X reluctor?

Appreciate all the help,

Neal

The early gen4 6.0's could be either or such as an LS2 engine. By the time the 6.2 was released it was only 58X being used.

Look at the crank sensor. Grey is 58x black is 24x.

Pull the sensor and look at the wheel.
24x is 2 piece with staggered teeth. 58X is 1 piece wheel with consistent teeth.

I'll find out how they verified the wheel and check the sensor to see what color it is,

thanks Neal

they pulled the crank sensor and verified the reluctor was a 24X wheel so someone changed it. The crank sensor is black so that should be the correct one, they are going to replace the crank sensor with the original from the 5.3 and see what happens.
