2005 grand cherokee module question
#1
does the "chrysler" PCM have to be in place for the other modules (BMC etc) to communicate and work properly. or will the rest of the vehicle operate properly with a standalone PCM separate from the others?

The PCM will need to be there. EVERYTHING is controlled by the PCM in these vehicles. You'll never see a stand-alone in one of these vehicles unless the owner wants to give up all of the vehicles features.
I have a dealer who does LS swaps on Jeep Wranglers, and he has to piggyback the LS1 PCM on top of the DCX PCM just to make the vehicle function.
