My 870 is purely functional....not pretty unless you are like me and find function=art. 18.5' barrel on a fixed stock....you cannot beat the 870 Express for value. The action is rugged and I have never seen or heard of a ftf...Congrats on the purchase, I guess you have a 10 day wait there too?

I got my express in 1998, I want to say I paid 150 bucks. Mint condition, barely used. Here's what I used up until then (now in a gun sock in my cabinet)...
Model 10 Description: Remington's first pump-action six-shot repeating shotgun Introduction Year: 1908 Year Discontinued: 1929 Total Production: Approximately 275,600 Designer/Inventor: John D. Pederson with improvements by C.C. Loomis and R. Barger Action Type: Pump action repeater Caliber/Gauge: 12 gauge Serial Number Blocks: 001 – 275,600
Serial numbers were preceded by the letter "U" Grades Offered: No. 1 or 10 A - Standard or Field Grade
No. 2 or 10 B - Special Grade
No. 3 or 10 C - Trap Grade
No. 3 Trap Special Grade
No. 4 or 10 D - Tournament Grade
No. 5 or 10 E - Expert Grade
No. 6 or 10 F - Premier Grade
No. 0 Riot Grade Variations: Model 10 Trench Shotgun (World War 1)
Model 10 T – Target Grade which included grades D, E, and F as described above

I took it to a gunsmith to have completely redone, blue'd and all...guy was like, "You nut, leave this gun alone, it's worth more in this rackety condition." I said no way, that was my great grandpa's, the my dad's dad, then mine. It will never be sold while I am alive. It is the smoothest shooting pump. Age has done her well.

Dewey...one of my most favorite military weapons and one I am still searching for..

I have come across a few in very poor condition and passed. The guys caught carrying one of these were worse than killed. Man, I love firearms for the machine and history.
