I turn mine off every nite, and during the day when I am not home.

I'm a torrenting monster. I set the displays to sleep, but let the computer remain functioning. That and it doubles as my alarm clock/music player while I sleep.

The battery in my laptop is lithium so it doesn't have a memory, so battery is not a concern for me. I rarely use it off the cord so it's not a big deal, but I can get 4+ hours out of it it with the screen dimmed.

I use to leave my desktop on 24/7 because I didn't have a router and the other pc connected through it. But now I only turn it on when I need it.
I turn my laptop off every time I'm not using it and leave it plugged int all the time. No reason to waste more electricity leaving things turned on.
Like bill said. Shutting it down lets the CPU rest and keeps the ram cleared.
Even your computer needs a break from time to time.
