Default What would be better for me?

I am sure that this question is out there.... BUT what transmission would be better for my truck built 60e or a 80e???

Mods are, to come, LQ? with heads with some work done, cam, and well rockin the 35's. I know that is a not whole lot of information but I would just like to get a idea on what would be better for me. I am a heavy foot driver I like to get to 60-65 fast as i can.

80e is going to be the obvious answer, start saving for the swap!

I know that people are running good with built trannys and some that are doing good with the 80e.

But I have heard that the 80e is a power robber, is that true?

Also does the transfer case have to be changed to accommodate the 80e?

The biggest problem with the 4l80e is it has a really tall first gear. That makes it feel much more sluggish off the line. The second problem is its obvious size. Because of that there is more parasitic drivetrain loss.

You will find that people who swapped to a 4l80e run slightly slower times, but not much(if at all). Another thing you will notice is that most people trap higher.

All things considered, peace of mind is important to a lot of people. I worry every day that my built 4l60e is going to go pop. I've been looking around for a good deal

So you think that the 80e will be a better choice from the jump? I have all ready busted my 60e with about 75K miles 20K miles from me and 45K miles from the other owner.

I have been thinking about it...

the hp wont be your killer but the strain of the 35s. on your setup id go with the 80e, if you were runnin street size tires like 29-30" id go FLT 65e. reason i say that is they say their trannys are good for around 500-550rwhp in the trucks at their lvl5/7 and they stand behind their product. they are the only 60e/65e built trans i would trust behind any HP. but the 35s will put more strain on the trans so go with the 80e and not worry.

That's a decision I can't make for you. That's where searching come in handy. You have to decide for yourself what your needs and wants are.

For me, I'm glad I haven't switched to a 4l80e yet. My 5.3L with full bolt ons and a 100 shot isn't quite enough to warrant the need for a 4l80e.
