I am cheap and make my videos with "Windows Movie Maker" It's a free download and is easy to work with. You can connect your camera and open the program and it's pretty self explainitory how you capture the video to your computer.

You should be able to get the program from Microsoft or just type the name into Goolge and it should pop up with soem download sites like MajorGeeks.com or something.

As for the cable you might have to get it from the store where you got the camera or form the manufacture. Mine came with my camera.

This is what I use. Works for analog and digital video. It came with all the cables needed.

if you have a mini dv chances are it uses an ieee or 1394 cable take it to circuit city and tell em you need a cable. But then of course you have to make sure you have that connection on the computer. Alot of times you can get the pci ieee card and the cable together.
Going this route preserves quality if its important

OR YOU CAN TRY READING THE ******* OWNERS MANUAL
