Basically Most Laptops You Will Find On The Market Will Do What Your Looking For Just Fine...
Can Be Had For Less Than 500 Bux... Especially If You Get Used

I have an old Compaq Evo with a Pentium 4 and it works fine, other than I wish the battery would last longer. I think I get maybe an hour out of the battery so usually have my inverter handy so I can keep it plugged in.
Like they said about anything will work (except a Mac). When my current one craps out I am probably just going to by an HP or Compaq from Wal-Mart which are going for~$550 right now. Hp seems to have a pretty good reputation as far as I know.

Hmmm, I thought toshibas had some of the best reps around, I had pretty much narrowed it down to that or an HP... I guess I know what I'm looking for now. I was planning on spending anywhere up to about 750 on one.

I got a real good deal on a 17" Compaq A931NR
Bestbuy had it on clearance for 599.99.
See if you can find one in your area that still has em on clearance. If you get lucky like i did you can get the display model the take off another $50.
You could also check Newegg.com to see if they have any sales going on. Personally i'd avoid ACCER. I think they are cheap made.
