Tipping

For good work a tip is generous IMO
Nothing is free, but that is the problem with some, they always want something for nothing.
I put myself in there shoes and take care of them if they take care of me.
When my wife and I go to a nice dinner with a good service,we tip very well.

I tip according to the service I receive.
If I receive excellent service I tip 20%.
If I receive good service I tip 15%.
If I receive mediocre service I tip 10%.
If I receive poor service I tip 5%.
If I receive horrible service I don't leave a tip.

If you're eating at the same places often, you either really like the place/food/service or it's the only place in town. In the case that you actually like the food/service, the tip is warranted IMO. But it still sucks that you're paying to make up for his wages, instead of really rewarding the good service.

Even with me being a waiter in the past I DO NOT tip 20%. Case in point, for Christmas Eve dinner with my family at a nice steakhouse our bill was a hair under 400 bucks, I tipped 30 bucks. To some that is shitty but we were there for 2 hours, I figure 15 bucks an hour to wait on me and my family is not bad. Im not going to pay a waiter more than I make to fill my glass and take my dirty plates.
I will tip someone good money if I feel they worked harder than I did to get the money originally. I don't pity-tip.
I'm not going to give handouts just because its socially acceptable. I hate it when people say, "they are trying to support a family." Guess what? So am I, and I don't care a lick about their family. I really don't. Every dollar I give away is a dollar that can't go towards the people I love. Same thing applies to salesmen.
They can switch jobs if they need the money that bad.
I ended a date over this issue actually. The girl had the audacity to criticize the amount I tipped as I was paying the bill. I just said, "I think I need to take you home." She was a bartender. The most over-tipped people I can think of. A tip for opening my beer?...."Get a better job."
