Mazda 3s are actually pretty decent, and don't forget Subarus (Legacy, Impreza), they are easy to mod and a lot of fun. The Cobalt will be fun, but be prepared for the same old GM problems and just wait for the squeaks and rattles to shake themselves out.

Subaru Impreza would be a awesome car all the way around, from a safety stand point, AWD and the power. Don't forget the G8.

Luckily I just got rid of my wife's Maxima and got her the tbss to ride back and forth to work in. Worked out for both of us
