We're looking to keep it in the compact car category. Whatever we get her now will be my beater in a couple years when we have our second kid and need more space(tahoe time). It must be 4 door and having some power wouldnt hurt. Right now the top contender is an 09 cobalt ss, as I understand it thats teh only turbocharged 4 door year model. Decent power, and good crash ratings. What kind of real world mileage can I expect to see out of this thing driving normal? Any known problems?

The other one we were looking at is a civic si.

Im open to other suggestions too, we're not really looking to spend more than 20K since she'll be getting a new vehicle in 2-3 years.

Can't go wrong with a honda for a 4-door DD. My mom has driven several Accords for probably 18 years or so. Now she has an Acura TL, but that doesn't so much fut the under 20K limit for you.

Hell my friend has a little Kia 4-door sedan that WILL NOT DIE no matter how much he beats the **** out of it.

 

the cobalt will be alot more fun then the civic. Buy American
