Default Thinking out loud, maybe some input from you guys would help

So this week I will have to cover some of my truck in vinyl. I work for my dad and own a separate company. I am a contractor and have to go in and out of country clubs all day, and the magnetic sign on and off all the time is ******* up my paint. So I decided to suck it up and vinyl the doors, back window etc.

Anyway, I am needing the rely on the truck on a daily basis more and more. Before I had a van I could drive should the truck go down, but now I have a full time crew of two guys in the van, so the truck is my only gauranteed ride. I'm worried if the tranny goes out again, or I can't get my cam swap done in time, or other projects completed by the end of the weekend, not to mention I work 60-70 hours a week including saturdays and sometimes sundays.

So it boils down to me taking responsibility and not modifying the truck anymore so it can stay reliable as possible. this, of course, doesn't sit well.

My plan is one of two options;

1. Be done with this truck, wrap it up with vinyl and designate it as a work truck and slowly return it to stock. Buy a single cab Sierra 5.3 to play with, and swap trannies/converters etc with this one, basically turning this one back to stock.

2. Buy a used NNBS and make payments and designate that as my work truck, leaving it bone stock, and having this one as my toy.

I basically need to get to the point where I have a second vehicle before modifying any more. Now that my wife is working more and we are able to save more money, I am able to play around a little bit more. I have waited 6 years to get serious with this truck, and now that I have my chance, my conscious is kicking in.

thoughts?

I would say option one is my favorite of the three, and probably least costly in the long run.

Either one is better than having to work out of your toy.

either way i'd have a dedicated DD and and dedicated hot rod that wouldnt necessarily have to run.

I'm leaning towards a new truck for DD and work and parking this for a bit. We are trying to have a kid. My wife has a Prius but in the event I need to take a kid somewhere by myself I wouldn't want to do it in a single cab.

I like the idea of a single cab because I've always wanted to drive on a road course, and they're a bit quicker.

Regardless of what happens, it wont be for about a year. Just starting to weight my options now.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that learned from experience.
