I did a little painting a few months ago, It was fun and very fulfilling. Plan on spending more than what the paint shop quotes you because of all the crap you have to buy up front. My first try came out better than I expected. I watched the paintucation DVD's and went to it.

Before

After

Good luck.

you really cant make a list of what you "need" to be a painter............. cuz the list will go on forever.

go to a junk yard and get some body panels to practice on. (lots of panels actually).

the one thing you have to remember, no contamination.

happy painting!!!!!

Cleanliness and patience. Tools and supplies are the easy part, just get a good quality gun with an adjustable regulator and use quality materials. The good thing is, once you learn how to do it, you never have to be in a hurry again, my Camaro has been at my painters since October.

whatever you do dont get cheap and buy a "decent" paint gun. Buy a quality gun to start with, and then start practice....Like said above go to the junkyard and grab a couple of cheap body panels and go to town!

Edit: Make sure your air compressor has good dry air pumpin out of it as well. Line Dryer's can be expensive but it's well worth it if you have water in the line.

I got the 5 DVD set. I used the DeVilbiss gun kit like the one shown on that page. Except mine had a touch up gun and a larger gun. Probably someone on here can point you in the right direction on which gun to get. I'm not sure if the guns I have are the best in the world. It was a cheaper set. If you wanted to buy the DVD's seperatly i would reccomend:

Paint Your Own Car

Color Sanding & Buffing

Body Shop Basics
