Thinking about getting something newer. Looking for opinions

I don't know that I would trade a 2000 for a 03-06 since it is basically the same truck. Although it may have fewer miles, you do not know how well the vehicle was maintained usually so your well maintained 147K may be in better shape than that not-so-well maintained 80K '04. If the worn interior in your dd is a concern, it can be upgraded to the 03-06 style for a few hundred bucks if you shop around and buy good used parts. Unless for some reason you are expecting a major failure on your paid for 2000, I say ride it and fix as needed. But then again, this does not take into consideration the 'want' factor.

I found 2 I would accept but need further inspection... The one I am considering is pretty rare but they don't know that...
BigKid Mine Needs some work. I beat it like a red headed step child. I try to maintain it but since it's an 00 it has the dreaded Piston slap. Was burning oil so I ran the High mileage oil in it to combat that issue. Now it has an intermittent ticking like a lifter is giving up. Just needs some TLC. Every motor I have looked at for a swap needs work.
I know the platform is the same. It's more a matter of do I spend the money going through every little thing or do I get something that doesn't need any major work in fairly decent shape. I have the mechanical now how to do everything automotive related. But do I have the time to fix everything and is it worth it since I need to DD the truck and use it for travel at work. Some times as far as 300-400 miles away.
The truck would need everything gone through it, so do I spend the money there or do I get something a little newer that won't need much more then fluids changed. I am very particular when it comes to used cars. I have plenty of up grades for this truck so that's not an issue.

All the one's I am considering have the Bose package with the captains chairs and center console. I would probably throw on an 06 hood, SS black grille with blacked out bowtie, and 06 plastics on the front bumper. Maybe even a Gibbs front bumper.
