There is a lesson to be learned.....

Iirc your mouth generates extra saliva due to the foreign object and that is what's hard on the enamel?

It's not the saliva but the metal piercing that rides against the gum line area. The piercing is hard and the pressure on the soft tissue at the gum line causes erosion. Same thing with the enamel on the teeth. If you were to look at the gum line in the back of my lower teeth it has eroded the gum line down to were the root of the tooth meets the Jaw bone. In my case, the enamel in this area is so thin that I can Physically feel the pick tool as it goes over the back side of each of the 4 teeth up front.
The saliva acts like a lubricant and the small particles of plaque are like abrasive. Even though the piercing is smooth the plaque will build up. It starts in the joint were the piercing is assembled. It will then slowly build up and grow over the surface. The pressure of the piercing and the saliva combined with the plaque is the equivalent of wet sanding the Paint on your car. The Gum line will also hide plaque build up. This is why they tell you to floss and use mouth wash.

I don't want to give a full on biology lesson so I will let you guys Google dental plaque. A disgusting as it is, You may find the lesson to be worth while. I know I did
Dental Plaque is basically bacteria in your mouth. You want to maintain a healthy balance. If you don't the dental Plaque will turn to Calculus AKA tarter and the tarter leads to dental caries AKA tooth decay. As it changes state and becomes un-healthy it produces acids that destroy your teeth and gums.

Good call Erik!
I saw the actual oral surgeon today that will be doing the procedure. He said not only do I not need a sinus lift but I only need the one implant done. He said there is no reason to even do the other 2 because the gap for them is so small that the teeth exposed from the gums would almost be non-existant.
They're just going to graft a little bone from my lower gum and pack it in the window he cuts in the upper gum for the tooth... this will build a little shelf for the implant and they'll just put that bitch in right there on the spot. Don't even have to go under for it, just gonna numb it up. Then I will get the actual crown put on in about 4-6 months.
They told me worst case scenario I'm looking at $2,150 which I am juiced about compared to the $9k I thought it was gonna be lol.
Procedure is scheduled for 12/12/12
