Default Tell me what I'm not thinking about

I've been looking for a decent deal on a 20-24 foot enclosed trailer for a while now. Around here, trailers are overpriced, to say the least. For whatever reason, people seem to think their trailers are worth prices higher than new(or what they paid for them used) just because they drove them up here from the lower 48. Like a damned delivery fee or something, crazy mother-sum-a-bitches.....

Anyways, tonight I ran across a listing on CL that seems like a fair price. In fact, it actually seems like a good deal. I called the seller, it's a 1996. Here's a copy of the ad.

26' Haulmark Enclosed Race Trailer - $5750 (Anchorage)

8.5'x26' Haulmark Elite II Enclosed Race Trailer with Tandem 5200# Torsion axles, Rear Ramp Door, Finished interior with 110v fluorescent lighting, outlets, and generator exterior hookup, also exterior hookup plugs for side lighting 110v, all on switches. beavertail, 102" wide interior, 2 12V dome lights on 1 switch, 2 roof vents, Extra d-rings mounts in floor, triple tube tongue, 24" stoneguard, one piece roof, 15" radial tires, Two Spare Tires, 48" RV Side Door, Floor Mounted winch bracket, E-track sections along each wall, Reverse lights, observation deck 8'x8' on top of trailer, no railing included. Older Heavy duty trailer but the top of the line when built. Everything works, pulls straight and is a quality piece priced to sell. Clean title in hand. 5750 obo. Call me to take a look.

So, my question here guys is this. What "problem areas" or other issues should I be looking for? Any issues with lights, wheel bearings, and trailer brakes wouldn't be any real issue for me, we those things at the shop pretty regularly. But do the torsion axles ever wear out? What would the signs be? Any particular areas in the frame that I should be especially concerned with to check for bends and/or cracking?

I'm gonna go check this thing out tomorrow after work. I just have this feeling like I'm gonna end up overlooking something serious. I've only ever owned one other cargo trailer, so this is somewhat new to me.

Gee, thanks for all the great ideas guys!

Anyways, aside from some cosmetic issues and normal wear & tear, I couldn't find much wrong with it. Made a deal and brought it home.

Good deal! I never saw your original post. Looks clean. I wish I could find one close by for a decent price.

Didn't see this til now. Our 20' enclosed is a Haulmark with torsion axles. Been a great trailer, I drag it to Colorado almost every year(3000 miles) loaded down 2k more than its rated for with no problems. Keep an eye on the front cap, that plastic can crack over time. The torsion axles aren't anything big, they claim they ride smoother but I can't tell pulling it. I really wish ours was a couple feet longer, fullsize trucks are a tight squeeze. Also make damn sure you put tires that are actual trailer tires on it. I never realized how big a difference there is car and trailer tires. Pulls a million times better with the carlisle trailer tires.

What do you do that type of trailer for?
